Meeting PE Mandates with Standards‑Aligned Practice
Equipping schools and districts with technology and curriculum that elevate PE instruction while minimizing demands on teacher time and resources.
From Vision to Research-Based Impact
Showcasing our journey, from grant-funded innovation to peer-reviewed impact, with transparent evaluation and published results.
Pocket PE was created over four years with support from CDC Small Business Innovation Research grants and led by Principal Investigator Dr. Jeanette Ricci. Development involved Saavsus collaborators and a multidisciplinary advisory board of national experts in motor development, physical education, and implementation science.
We are currently evaluating Pocket PE in a large-scale randomized controlled trial with 72 classroom teachers in Oregon and California. The trial established feasibility and impact when classroom teachers used Pocket PE in real classroom settings.
Findings show reliable improvements in teacher confidence in teaching PE, increases in student moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and higher student enjoyment of skill-focused lessons. These outcomes support both instructional quality and student engagement across schools.

FAQs for District Leaders
Common questions and answers for school administrators.
How can Pocket PE help our district meet physical education mandates?
Pocket PE provides the tools and resources to deliver standards-aligned PE across all schools – even when taught by classroom teachers. Lessons are designed for low-prep, high-impact instruction and include built-in supports for teachers with limited PE training. At the same time, PE specialists can use Pocket PE to build curriculum and lessons and collaborate with classroom teachers. This dual-purpose design helps districts meet instructional minutes, equity goals, and reporting requirements with confidence.
How does Pocket PE support districtwide implementation?
Lessons are designed to work in any space — classrooms, gyms, or outdoors — with minimal equipment. Pocket PE offers scalable access across schools, with grade-aligned lessons, administrator dashboards to assign teacher licenses, and aggregate class-level PE data reporting. Districts can monitor adoption and ensure standards alignment across teachers and schools.
Can we pilot Pocket PE before full adoption?
Yes. We can offer Pocket PE to a sample of teachers or schools within your district. Pilots help districts assess feasibility, impact, and fit before scaling.
Is Pocket PE aligned to national standards?
Every lesson is mapped to SHAPE America standards and organized into grade-level progressions. This ensures consistency across classrooms and supports standards-based reporting.
What kind of training and support do you offer?
Districts receive high touch sales and implementation calls and assistance with technology approvals and licensing. Educators receive live webinars, and ongoing district and educator support is available through tutorial videos, help articles, and a responsive ticketing system.
Can we use Pocket PE data for board reports or grant applications?
Yes. Districts can export class-level summary data on PE minutes achieved and standards alignment. These metrics support internal reporting, funding proposals, and stakeholder communication.
Is Pocket PE available for Grades K - 2?
Currently, Pocket PE is available for Grades 3–5. We have completed feasibility work for the K–2 curriculum, and anticipate making it available in 2026. Stay tuned for updates as we expand our offerings to support younger learners.
